Look around your classroom. Does it reflect the children in your class, community and the world? Embrace that we are part of a Global Community. Learn to listen to all the stories about friends, teachers in your classrooms and centers, parents and grandparents. Trace people’s personal history. Where were they born, where did they grow up? Learn about the people in your community and the world, similarities/differences. Include in your classroom pictures of people, transportation, buildings, toys and books that represent all the cultures you hear stories about in your classroom and cultures that you would see beyond. Think Global.
Kids for Kids is about building bridges and understanding people globally. We start by finding the ways we are similar; we read the same books, go to school, eat with our friends and families, plant vegetables, play catch. We are connected by our commonalities. We also learn that we live in different climates, eat different foods, speak different languages. The differences pique our curiosity. We learn more. By learning more, we become informed, build understanding, respect, acceptance and empathy. We celebrate our differences. With Kids for Kids we transcend our borders and walk in the shoes of others.
